### Summary
THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE FLYER. Section 1125 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 authorizes the Secretary of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to positions in the competitive service at any domestic Defense Industrial Base Facility or Major Range and Test Facilities Base. Competitive rating and ranking of applicants do not apply to the Direct Hire process.

### Responsibilities
* You will operate and maintain dosimetry systems.
* You will initiate personnel dosimetry investigations to determine personnel exposures in cases where malfunction of equipment or discrepancies are identified.
* You will prepare reports of investigations, analyses and surveys.
* You will operate analysis instrumentation and associated software for various types of routine radioactivity analyses.
* You will identify conditions which affect the determination of actions necessary to contain and control radiation.
* You will assure adherence to radiological control requirements.
* You will recommend changes to work plans and trades procedures to improve radiological controls, correct deficiencies, increase efficiency, minimize exposure, and prevent incidents.
* You will assure appropriate radiological controls is factored into the planning, technical engineering procedures, and job preparations.
* You will oversee reviews of procedures, instructions, and plans for technical adequacy.
* You will develop and prepare procedures for Shipyard response to radiological emergencies.
* You will plan and conduct major quarterly drills to evaluate and improve the Shipyard?s level of preparedness.
* You will conduct and evaluate training sessions for emergency response personnel.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT - Applicants must possess: A full 4-year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus; **OR**
A combination of education and experience - courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; **OR**
Certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above
****** Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:***
**FOR THE GS-07**: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education; OR successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement OR a combination of education and experience that equates to one year of experience.
**FOR THE GS-09**: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR successfully completed two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree; OR a combination of education and experience that equates to one year of experience.
**FOR THE GS-11**: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR successfully completed three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree; OR a combination of education and experience that equates to one year of experience.
